Chapter 48 - A Get Together
The car journey was anything but comfortable. There was an uneasy atmosphere between the two soon-to-be-wed travellers. Amanda obviously wasn't best pleased because she had been convinced by her fiancé to meet up again with his Aunt Samantha, a person for whom she didn't hold much regard. In the passenger seat, nursing an upset stomach, Peter was quietly fuming inside. He still couldn't believe how stubborn Amanda had at first been - her dislike for Samantha was obviously far deeper than he had realised. The fact that she had actually attempted to strike him had shocked Peter straight to the core; he wasn't even sure he knew her at all any more. But of course he had to remember that he was not at full health right now, and could very well see matters in a very different light when feeling better. For now he would let the recent events pass by without starting any arguments with Amanda, as meeting up with Samantha was far more important. She could very well hold the key to retrieving not only their son, but also her own daughter, Elizabeth.
Meanwhile Samantha was fast asleep downstairs in her living room with the television still on. She had been completely worn out by her visitors over the last few days, and it had taken a toll on her. But she was far from peaceful, as something was playing on her subconscious mind. Talk of Jesusraz and attempts to retrieve him from this unknown other world had upset her deeply. She missed her Elizabeth so, but had recently begun to gradually forget and give up hope of ever seeing her again. Now though her interest in getting her daughter back was renewed with great vigour, and it was for this reason that her rest was not entirely calm. Suddenly the television remote fell off the arm of the chair where Samantha slept, clicking off the set and silencing the noise that had been echoing around the house. Samantha awoke almost instantly and cried out, "Elizabeth?" Slowly she looked around herself, and eventually realised that she must have dozed off without meaning to. She felt cold sweat trickle down the back of her neck, and the fine hairs on her youthful-looking arms were all stood to attention, as if alerted by unseen presence in the room. This had happened to her before, and she knew exactly what was going to occur...
It was at that moment that Amanda pulled the car onto the road where she immediately sighted the house she'd wished she wouldn't ever have to lay eyes on again. Peter glanced up out of the side window at the house that he had first thought was so gruesome looking - he must have been imagining things that other day, as this house didn't look like an eerie face in the slightest. Amanda parked the car on the edge of the pavement and switched off the engine. She quickly got out and rushed around to the other side of the car to help Peter out. This seemed to encourage him to get out of the car without aid. He was thinking to himself about how Amanda did care for him, and that he would just forget her earlier near-attack on him, and not mention it to her at all. Forgiven and forgotten, it was easier that way. Amanda locked the car, and went to take Peter's hand in hers as they began to walk towards the front door of the house. Their arrival had been foreseen though. Both Peter and Amanda saw Samantha stood waiting for them at the entrance to the house, and she was certainly not at all looking herself...
